Only if I were a poetess could I...

Dear Cherie,

Only if I were a poetess could I tell the difference Dr. Graham Maxwell made in my life.  But the very minimum difference to me was that he was like that “still small voice” in which “onward came the Lord.”  And I think of that aria in Mendelssohn’s Elijah where there is also a choral arrangement of “Onward, onward, came the Lord.”  I’ve heard that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I want to be just like Dr. Maxwell.  In fact I was waiting to see if my little study group was going to get off the ground before I wrote to thank you for all the material you sent to me.  It seems like the women that come to study with me are going to continue our plan to go through the Bible in three years.  I will make an even greater effort to do so now, in memory of my mentor Dr. Maxwell.

Your friend forever,
