Remembering Graham Print

November 29, 2010

Friends,

With sorrow, but with peace and assurance of what God is like and His gift of life to come, Pine Knoll and the Maxwell Family announce that A. Graham Maxwell passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010.

Since 1972, we have been mentored by this scholar and friend to thousands. Demonstrating evidence, Graham guided us to a trustworthy God—the God who invites us to be His friends. Keeping God the focus and treating others with a life of consistent grace, Graham stood in the shadows by choice, pointing to the light.

We want to acknowledge this giant of goodness and to thank God for His gift of this human friend.

Would you like to join us in thanks and with memories? If your journey with Graham reminds you of a favorite saying you remember him using, a favorite quote or a favorite story, would you share? If what you have learned has made a difference in your life, if you have been able to share it and observe the results, please write us a note at This email address is being protected from spambots. You have no idea... Print

You have no idea how much Graham meant to me.  I came into the church in the 70's and from that time to present day, there is not a day when I am not listening to his studies.  I am so saddened by this news that I am having a difficult time containing myself.  He was the one instrument of God to educate me in the things of God.  I wept many of times when listening to his studies. He kept me on the mark, the narrow road, the straight path so many times. Praise God I can continue to listen to his studies and await the day when we will all get together.  I know you can't hear me, but thank you Graham.  My love to his family.

Greater clarity on the beautiful nature of God... Print

My appreciation of Dr. Graham Maxwell is not from close association, but from a distance.  In fact, I don't think I even knew what he looked like until just now visiting his website, but I certainly knew his voice.

From early childhood, I remember listening to Maxwell Sabbath School lessons on cassette tapes.  My father would listen to them on car trips and on Friday nights.  It was this, along with what I consider to be the similar message presented by E.G. White and the Bible, that gave me the healthy picture of God that I am thankful to have today.  I view Graham Maxwell as a type of reformer in the mold of the great protestant reformers, who worked to further a movement to bring greater clarity on the beautiful nature of our God.  What greater cause could there be.

Thank you Graham Maxwell, and thanks to all those close to him who supported his work.

Sincerely,

Bradley Randall, DDS

PS~ His movement is continuing to develop and expand.  It's now up to those of us who are left to continue sharing the "Good News" of the extreme love of our God.

Only if I were a poetess could I... Print

Dear Cherie,

Only if I were a poetess could I tell the difference Dr. Graham Maxwell made in my life.  But the very minimum difference to me was that he was like that “still small voice” in which “onward came the Lord.”  And I think of that aria in Mendelssohn’s Elijah where there is also a choral arrangement of “Onward, onward, came the Lord.”  I’ve heard that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I want to be just like Dr. Maxwell.  In fact I was waiting to see if my little study group was going to get off the ground before I wrote to thank you for all the material you sent to me.  It seems like the women that come to study with me are going to continue our plan to go through the Bible in three years.  I will make an even greater effort to do so now, in memory of my mentor Dr. Maxwell.

Your friend forever,

I finally understood... Print

Even though I was born into an Adventist home, attended Sabbath School and church and SDA schools from elementary through college, I never really believed that I could be good enough to be saved.  It wasn't until I was married and my children were grown and out of the house that, thanks to Graham, I finally understood that God does truly want to save me.  I no longer live in fear.  What a precious gift I have been given.

He taught me to question... Print

I keep coming back and listening to Graham's tapes—I have not found anything else that makes such good sense.  He taught me to question and to take the Bible as a whole—it is consistent throughout.

I love this God and I want to be just like Him... Print

I remember vividly the first time I had a friend share a Sabbath School tape with me. I was very frustrated by the end of the tape because Graham asked very good, thought-provoking questions, but never seemed to give an answer to them. He just kept saying our God is not what his enemies have made Him out to be....But I kept listening and I began to read the Bible differently. On a long road trip a friend loaned me her set of the picture of God in all 66 books. I fell in love with my Great God all over again with a better picture, a more trustworthy and loving picture of Him, than I had ever had before. Since then, I have read Graham’s books and listened to everything I can over and over to rewrite the messages that have been so deeply ingrained into my heart and mind. I love this God and I want to be just like Him. But more than that, I want everyone to know Him as He truly is and become His trusting and trustworthy friend as I am learning to do day by day.

The most valuable thing I received while at LLUSM... Print

A wave of sorrow passed over me as I read of Graham's passing. After a career in medicine I can still say that the most valuable thing I received while at LLUSM was the Picture of God I found in his class.

I wore out several players... Print

He has been big help to me in understanding the Bible better.  My brother-in-law gave me us a set of the tapes going through the 66 books.  I wore out several players listening to them while I walked each day.  Now I use an iPod to listen to the Sabbath School lessons each week and enjoy them very much.

Thank you.  Thank you,

The message that will prepare God's people... Print

It sounds like things are changing at Pine Knoll - I know Graham will be missed, but he has prepared others to "Carry On!!!"

We are continuing to pray for you and the wonderful work you are doing for our Gracious Creator and Savior. I want you to know that I believe the work of Graham Maxwell was no less a part of the reformation than that of Martin Luther and the other great reformers.  Dr. Maxwell has put the Gospel in the context of the Great Controversy in a beautiful way so that it all makes perfect sense. I believe this is the message that will prepare God's people for the time of trouble and the second coming of Christ by focusing on the "Truth that Sets us Free."
